The problem of food security in Nigeria cannot be underscored. This arises not only as a result of food shortage, but due chiefly, to the lack of access to some important food items, which are needed for healthy living.More of these food items are available seasonally and in most cases they get spoilt as result of poor storage facilities. There is also the perennial problem of inadequate processing and packaging for sustained off-season domestic use. Similarly, the so called “waste” generated during processing are enormous and are not currently effectively or economically utilized for other uses such as components of livestock/fish feeds. INFORMATION ON THE STEP-B PROJECT

Science and technology education post-basic (STEB_B)project is a world Bank assisted programme aimed at Developing science and technology eduction in secondary schools and tertiary institution in the country.

On match 11,2008, shortly before the first STEP-B grant, The university appointed its STEP-B projects officers: manager - prof. O.C Ademosun

Procurement officer- Dr J.O Okunlola

Monitoring and evaluation officer - Dr B .K . Alese

Finance officer - Mr .P.O Akindele

Each of them attended a training workshop organized by the world Bank and STEP-B National project secretariat (NPS). World Bank, NPS and National university commission (NUC) have also organized other workshops, seminars and reviews project of officers.

The FUTA STEP-B project submits quarterly progress report to the university management. It also submit regular report to the NPS. There are operational guidelines that each project officer must abide with .The World Bank , NPS and NUC staff and consultants visit the university STEP-B project secretariat frequently and request for various information. Auditing is also performed by the university internal Auditor regularly.
